About the CE Session

This intermediate-level session, presented by three experienced clinicians, provides an evidence-informed and ethically grounded examination of occupational stress in trauma-exposed professional settings. Participants deepen their understanding of burnout, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, resilience, and moral injury, with clear differentiation between normative occupational stress and trauma-related or morally injurious distress.

Grounded in contemporary peer-reviewed literature, the program integrates trauma theory, stress physiology, neuroscience, and systems-informed occupational psychology to examine how cumulative exposure to traumatic material, sustained empathic engagement, ethical conflict, and organizational stressors influence clinician cognition, affect regulation, moral appraisal, professional identity, and occupational functioning.

Both individual and systemic contributors are explored within a trauma-informed framework. Participants review key risk and protective factors, including emotion regulation capacity, resilience processes, supervision quality, team climate, organizational structure, and sociocultural influences. The training highlights research-supported self-compassion and resilience-building strategies and provides an educational overview of EMDR-informed group principles in workplace contexts, including their empirical foundations, scope, and limitations.

Instructional methods include didactic review, structured case analysis, guided skills application, and demonstration of evidence-informed regulation strategies. Participants develop a structured, trauma-informed professional resilience plan to support sustainable and ethically responsible practice. The empirical basis, clinical utility, limitations, and potential risks of presented approaches are explicitly addressed. This continuing education activity does not provide psychotherapy, supervision, crisis intervention, or EMDR certification.
